Various later numerical inscriptions verso. Stretcher has central support bar which is period, but off center. Mid-20th C. molding. Note: A particularly well detailed, charming 19th C. landscape quite possibly by Thors, which could benefit from a good varnish removal and subsequent signature evaluation. Bears an apparently late 19th C. inscription on stretcher verso "By A. J. H. Way / Balt. artist / Dec. 19th, 1879" reinforced w/ pencil and inscribed in pencil "cash". Early 20th C. label below inscribed "By A. J. H. Way (Baltimore Artist), Purchased Dec. 19, 1879 for 7 pounds, 7 shillings". Note: Apparently this work was acquired in England, in an English colony or by an English buyer. The stretchers and frame are American. Mid- 20th C. biographical label also affixed verso.
