58A 19TH CENTURY NEPALESE BRONZE MODEL OF ELEPHANT WITH MAHOUT AND THE GOD INDRA: A very heavy piece with elaborate semi-precious stone trappings, elephant carrying a Mahout and a howdah on which sits the god Indra, his right hand upraised in the abhaya mudra position. The elephant originally carried a standard in its trunk. The howdah is richly embellished with scrolling wirework designs set with cabochon turquoise and coral and further decorated with cabochons of blue and other colored glass, 20"h. x 17"l. x 7"w. Beautiful jewel work, missing jeweled umbrella once held aloft above Indra. 500
