2A EUROPEAN ICON WITH MADONNA AND CHILD: Encased in engraved cut out silver frame (assayed 800fine), probably 19th C, possibly earlier, probably Russian, O/B, silver casing also encased in carved gilt frame placed inside an elaborate rosewood ogee hinged shadowbox. This pieces is of exceptional detail. Painting 5 1/2" x 4 1/4", overall 9" x 8 1/2".

Jr, (American, 20th C): Illustration of bass after a lure, O/B, 9" x 22 1/2", signed lower left, of exceptional quality, shows both striped, large, and smallmouth bass in natural habitat. Monroe was member of The Society of Animal Artists, receiving the Award of Excellence (1979,1980), along with several other noted animal illustrators, such as Robert Bateman and Robert Kuhn. Monroe was also known for illustrating several Edgar Rice Burroughs books, as well as Colliers magazine.

This is an exceptional example of the work of this early Michigan artist.
