23 | JOHN, Augustus, (British, 1878-1961): Two sided piece depicting two female nude studies, Pencil Drawings, 12 1/2'' x 14'', signed in pencil upper right ''Augustus John'' and marked upper left ''Slade School'' accompanied by a letter from the Phyllis Gorlick King Gallery authenticating the piece. When he was at Slade, Augustus John was known for his exceptional draftsmanship and his flamboyance. He studied there from 1894-1898. His sister studied there and this is where he met his future wife. Condition - Minor staining throughout, a crease running through the center vertically, small tear in lower left corner extending two inches into the piece.
