Upper section with rows of upper case and lower case alphabet followed by a pious poem ''Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand As the first efforts of an infants hand And while my fingers on the canvass move Engage my tender thoughts to seek thy love With thy dear children let me have a part And write thy name thyself upon my heart''. Signed Jane Winwood within a cartouche. The central motif being the serpent wrapped tree of life on a green knoll, on the left side is a tree with two perched birds, right side with a flower filled urn. Faded strawberry border. Unusually large sampler measuring 17'' by 19.50''. Framed under glass 24'' x 21 1/2'' overall.
