LOBOS, Alberto, (Chilean, 1892-1925): Chilean Courtyard, O/C, 16 1/4'' x 21 1/4'', signed, encased in original pierce carved and gilded period frame, 21 1/4'' x 26 1/4''. Alberto Lobos and his brothers Enrique and Alfredo were all members of the ''Generation of Thirteen'' (meaning the year 1913), a bohemian group recognized as the best artists of their time in Chile, the very early 20th century. They were all students of the same mentor, one Maestro Fernando Alvarez de Sotomayor(1875-1960), a Spaniard imported to Chile by its government to lead the program at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Chile. Each developed their own specialty, with Alberto Lobos favoring the wonderful landscapes of Chile. The works of Alberto Lobos (and his brothers) hang in virtually every major museum and private collection in Chile. The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes owns works by all three.
