Robert Meacham, a prominent African American in Florida history, born to white State Senator Banks Meacham and his slave mother. Robert Meacham became an influential AME minister, State Senator, Postmaster, Clerk of Court and Superintendent of Schools of Jefferson County, Postmaster of Punta Gorda, and Register, many of these position were the first for an African American in Florida.
