1832 AMES SPRINGFIELD ARTILLERY SWORD 1841 DATE: Pre Mexican war dated model 1832 foot artillery sword and scabbard. All brass hilt nice and tight with crisp full eagle on pommel and fish scale design. Cross guard is stamped MS which some collectors believe stands for Massachusetts, and underside with WS inspector, and MPL. ORD. Blade is clearly marked NP AMES SPRINGFIELD, verso UNITED STATES 1841 WS. Blade shows minor areas of age stain and has been sharpened on both edges. Blade shows marks from sharpening. Blade measures 19 1/8'' in length. Leather scabbard complete with excellent leather. Brass mounts with button frog. Leather frog appears to be period replacement. Drag tip mount has split to brass on backside. Overall length in scabbard is 25 3/4''.
