MONUMENTAL ELKINGTON VICTORIAN SILVERPLATE TANKARD: Most likely commissioned by the Victoria & Albert Museum, based on a 17th century German carved ivory tankard. Over the top neo-classical motif chased and repousse finial and body. Finial of Lapith man battling a centaur, body with feast or wedding scene, entire scene may be inspired by the Centauromachy. Marked on base with Department of Arts & Sciences, Elkington, VR cypher. Also stamped Elkington. Overall measures 19'' h. x 10''.
