SEMI-ANTIQUE PERSIAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 9' 5'' x 15' 5'': This palace sized rug has a central medallion that is like the famous Ardebil rug found in museums but is not as old and does not use the same color ways as the famous examples. However, this is an attractive example of Persian commercial weaving in its use of the design. The red ground of the field is covered first with the large rounded central medallion, and radiating out from that the vine connected leaves flowers and palmettes. The borders design of palmettes on the purple-blue ground do a good job in framing the central designs of the rug.
CONDITION: There is some pulling away of the selvedges on all sides of the rug that can be easily repaired. Otherwise condition is good.
