OLD CHINESE HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 5' 6'' x 7' 11'': This rug has a French Aubusson design that includes an oval central medallion in soft colors of pale aqua, charcoal grey, yellow, pale orange, white, and rose pinks. The medallion sits on a pale two-toned beige field that has an inner set of borders consisting of a row of large single flower-heads followed by charcoal grey scrolling leaves that rest on the pale aqua corners. The outer borders of the rug are ''broken'' in that they don't follow a straight line around the field of the rug, but curve in at the corners of the rug. CONDITION: There are some stains visible especially in the beige field. |

The result is an attractive well composed design. The field has a pale pinkish beige ground with an orderly balanced placement of palmettes and flowers linked with vines. The edges of the field have areas of different motifs that look like they have continued on from the designs and colors of the borders of the rug giving a ''broken borders'' effect that adds to the overall look of the rug.
