1208 | MATISSE, Henre, French, (1862 - 1918): Original clip signature (''Exemplar No 170) matted beneath a reproduction of one of his 1947 famous paintings of fruit, portrait, window and walls. The two pieces are imaginatively matted in red and grey, the red cut in horizontal and vertical lines about an inch around both windows to give an impression of one image, framed in speckled gold-silver tone. Purchased from the famous Charles Hamilton Gallery in NYC, 1981. He designed the presentation and wrote on the paper backing the provenance. Rare to find anything with the full, bold signature of Matisse on the market. Usually only last name. Signature sight size 1 3/4'' x 4'', framed 22'' x 17 1/4''. From the William Crawford Plumley Estate. CONDITION: Not examined out of frame. |
