The black ground of the main field has four large palmettes running down the center of the rug. There are two more palmettes going sideways in the middle of the field. Around and linked to the palmettes are large leaves and vines. All of the design elements are done in golden yellow colors including the wide borders of the rug. The vases are in many shapes and sizes and are in pairs that are either just opposite each other or on opposite sides of the rug. The vases have panels of varying designs with almost every one containing an inscription. A rug like this is not just a floor covering, but would be the source of conversation for years to come.
