1010 Click for larger picture PAIR KINDEL FURNITURE WINTERTHUR COLLECTION QUEEN ANNE ARMCHAIRS: A fine pair of Kindel Mahogany Winterthur Collection Queen Anne Armchairs having the very same hand-carved elements (shells, volutes, acanthus leaves, and ball and claw feet) and crafted from the same materials as the originals that were made around 1760 in Philadelphia. They are considered by many scholars and collectors to be one of the finest examples of the Queen Anne style in Philadelphia. One of the originals sold at Christie's in 2002 for $666,000, a world record for a single wooden side chair. 42 1/2''h. x 26''w. x 22''d., 20'' Seat height, 29 1/4'' arm height. The overall soft pastel colors used combined with the delicacy of the motifs renderings makes this an appealing, luscious rug. The central medallion combines pale peach, pink, pistachio green, and grey-blue and rests on a pale yellow field. The delicate vines and tendrils that link the other patterns are done in a pale grey-blue. They also help to delineate the added panels of pink, turquoise, and white that edge the main field. The main border has the same colors found in the central medallion. Condition is good. There is some abrash or color change in the pale yellow field that isn't objectionable. Appraised Retail Replacement value in 2002 $9750. 900

1079 Click for larger picture APPROX. 10-25 YR OLD PERSIAN BIJAR HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 8'10'' x 11'7'': This attractive Persian rug has a midnight blue field covered with repeating stylized Herati pattern of leaves that look like keys that curve around flower heads or palmettes. In the center of this very tight pattern is a diamond shaped medallion with an unusual green center followed by a white then a red outer diamond. The four corners of the field have the same color format that form a triangle in each corner. The red ground of the main border is accented by the ''cord'' look and cream colored guard borders. Bijar rugs are not only lovely to look at, they are very durable rugs as well. Condition is good. 600

OLD PERSIAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 8'2'' x 12'4'': This lovely example of good Persian weaving has a large diamond shaped central medallion within a medallion in ivory, rust-red, and shades of blue on an ivory field. The rust-red and blue corners follow the diamond shape of the central design and are all filled in with designs of leaves and vines around sprays of flowers. The medium blue guard borders and the deep blue and red-rust main border complete this rug. Older rugs have a charm that can only be achieved with age.
CONDITION: There are some slight stains, some sun fade, and the rug is dry in some places with some visible breaks. The ends have been professionally refringed. Gently handled this rug will easily last another generation or two. This lot is exclusive through Burchard Galleries and will not be available via Live Auctioneers or Invaluable.

OLD TURKISH HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 6'7'' x 9'9'': This rug, probably woven in Oushaq area, has a deep turquoise-blue field that is covered by rows of a repeating geometric shaped motif. This design was executed in colors that include red, pistachio green, yellow, dark blue, pink, and white. The field is bounded by a single narrow border. The former owner referred to this as a ''Happy Carpet'' and I can see why. It has a cheerful, playful look that would brighten any setting. Condition is good. 250

1227 Click for larger picture SEMI-ANTIQUE NAVAJO RUG, 3'6'' x 5': This rug has a good bold design consisting of a large white central medallion with red and dark brown saw tooth edging and a red and brown X in the center. On either end are suspended small stepped star motifs with matching motifs on either side. Above these outer stars are small gatherings of stripes of brown, red, and blue. All of this rests on a grey-beige, brown, and white mottled natural colored wool ground. This field is bordered by a single band of brown and a white outer border.
CONDITION: The sides and end show signs of lots of wear and tear and the white areas look a little soiled, but the body of the rug is intact.

OLD ROMANIAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 4' x 5'11'': Although this rug was woven in Romania it has a traditional Persian design that consists of an overall pattern of pastel colored palmettes, leaves, and flowers linked by vines and tendrils. Placed here and there among the foliage are found various types of birds. The ivory main field is edged by raspberry red guard borders and a medium blue main border that has more birds and palmettes. There is a signature cartouche found at one end in the middle of the outer edge.
CONDITION: The ends and fringes show signs of wear and this rug would sparkle after a good cleaning.

Suspended at either end of the medallion are spandrels with unusual green centers and black outer edges. The vibrant red ground is framed with four white corners and a very dark ground main border.
