Faden 1783'' by Daniel Friederich Sotzmann, Berlin, 1783 in Historich-Genealogische Calender. Very rare early map of the newly formed United States, sight size 8'' x 10'', framed and matted 15'' x 16 3/4''.
CONDITION: Not examined out of frame. Visible fold lines, tear lower center edge.

1170 Click for larger picture BARLOW, Myron (American, 1873-1937): Pensive Young Girl Seated in an Interior, Oil/Canvas, 36'' x 28 1/2'', signed lower right, encased in period gilt and carved frame, 41 1/2'' x 33 1/2''. Barlow was an exceptional Detroit artist who spent most of his time at his home in Etaples, France. He studied whe he was younger with Boulanger and Gerome. By the age of twenty-two, Barlow had been awarded his first medal. In 1907, at age thirty-four, he was the only American elected to membership in the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts in France. In 1932, the French government awarded Barlow the Legion of Honor. (Gerald Peters Gallery)

OLD INDO-PERSIAN HERIZ HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 6'11'' x 9'2'': This in between size rug has a traditional format for a Heriz rug with its lobed central medallion of dark blue, rust red and ivory sitting on a rust red field. There are spandrels suspended from either end of the medallion as well as a network of medium blue vines that go out from the edge of the medallion in all directions. These link up with the leaves and flowers in the field. The ivory & rust corners and the blue ground main border finish the overall pattern of the rug. Condition is good. 600

OLD PERSIAN LILLIHAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 2'7'' x 8'2'': Persian Lillihan rugs are attractive yet durable rugs that often are woven in traditional Sarouk designs. This one is no exception. The colors, especially the red field and the patterns of sprays of various flowers radiating out from the center of the rug, make most people think they are looking at a Sarouk instead of its cousin a Lillihan. The two are often used together with Lillihans filling in for Sarouks that can't be found or in high traffic areas. Condition is good. 325

OLD SINO-PERSIAN HAND KNOTTED SILK?/SYNTHETIC SILK RUG, 9' x 12'1'': This room size rug has the look of a classical Persian rug in design but with updated colorways. The pastel grays, beiges, ivory, with the black and burgundy accents were meant to go with today's decor. The large round central medallion has a smaller medallion within that looks like a flower with many petals. This rests on an ivory colored main field that is surrounded by a gray/beige outer field with burgundy corners. A profusion of flowers, leaves, and vines covers all of the field. These are done in the pastel hues already mentioned. The black ground of the main border is the base for repeating, alternating vases of flowers and a star/flower medallion in ivory, black, and burgundy. Condition is good. 700

OLD TURKOMAN BOKHARA HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 4'3'' x 6'2'': This real Bokhara has a somewhat different use of the colors usually found on these rugs but the motifs are traditional. There are alternating rows of two different patterns of ''guls'', a small diamond shaped one and an oval gul that has four panels or quarters. These quarters are accentuated by blue lines that run through the rug and intersect in the center of each gul. The colors in the guls include a medium blue, rust, white and salmon. The salmon colored field is bordered by darker colored multiple small guard borders, a main border with another gul in panels and aprons at each end of the field. Condition is good. 175
