ANTIQUE DATED CAUCASIAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 3' x 5': This rug has an inner very narrow black ground that uses birds as part of the motifs of its designs. The edges of this part of the field are composed of stepped triangles that rest on a red outer field. A barber pole border is followed by guard borders with a traditional Caucasian design of flower heads and a meandering vine going round them. The white ground main border has a date cartouche with the date 1342 which would make this an early twentieth century rug. The serrated leaf and palmette design in red and blue is also a traditional Caucasian design.
CONDITION: The center black ground is very worn and there are places on the sides and ends that need attention.
