1007 Click for larger picture EARLY LIFE-SIZE PAINTING (JUAN CARRENO DE MIRANDA?): Nearly Full Length Portrait of Middle Age Nobleman, Oil/Canvas, 59'' x 44'', framed, 69.5'' x 55'', Christie's label affixed verso. Gentleman is probably in his 40's or early 50s, wearing a sword on his hip with a family crest painted in the upper left hand corner.
CONDITION: Older reline, scattered inpaint, several abrasions, minor wear to frame, sold as is.

CONDITION: The slightest out of sight imperfection can be felt under the chin. Shippers note weighs approx. 44.5 lbs.

Laurens was an important Salon painter of French historical scenes. He was also the most sought after French teacher among Americans.

1032 Click for larger picture MIRO, Joan, (Spanish, 1893-1983): ''Plate #10 from Album 21'', Lithograph, 25.5'' x 19.5'', pencil signed lower right, numbered 44/75 lower left, under plexiglass in a heavy contemporary gilded gesso frame, 41.5'' x 35.75'' x 2.75''. Miro studied at the Barcelona Ecole des Beaux-Arts and the Academie Gali and eventually moved to Paris. There he became friends with Picasso, Hemingway, Klee and Ernst and was accepted as a Surrealist. In his 70's he produced bronze and in his 80's he worked with Royo who created tapestries. Miro transformed them from appreciated folk art to masterpieces by applying different materials and techniques. 2250

1034 Click for larger picture CHAGALL, Marc, (Russian, 1887-1985): Plate from Poemes of Man with Goat, Woodcut, sight size 19.5'' x 13'', pencil signed lower right, numbered 12/26 lower left, contemporary frame, 36'' x 30'' x 3''. Born Moishe Shagal, Chagall became a French citizen and adopted the French spelling of his name as he became a noted member of the Ecole de Paris. His paintings were influenced by his upbringing as a Hasidic Jew. Russian folklore, peasant life and landscapes persisted in his work all his life.
CONDITION: Minor toning throughout, not examined out of frame, sold as is.

1045 Click for larger picture MROZEWSKI, Stefan, (Polish, 1894-1975): 5 Wood Cuts from The Dante's Inferno Series, 18.75'' x 14.5'' with margins, pencil signed, numbered, unframed. Mrozewski studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and Krakow, later residing in Paris and Amsterdam where his art gained recognition. He illustrated M. Schwob's King with the Golden Mask. Mrozewski's subjects included religious themes, landscapes and portraits. He also illustrated books by Dante, Cervantes, Dostoyesky, Rilke, Villon, Schvog and others. Mrozewski emigrated to the United States in 1951. He is largely known for his wood engravings and several examples are included in The Library of Congress' permanent collection.
CONDITION: Varies according to print. Several prints have tears and missing paper in margins, scattered foxing and staining, tape removal will be required. Sold as is.
