MONUMENTAL JAPANESE SATSUMA MEIJI PERIOD VASE ON STAND: Lotus-form rim and neck are molded over a shaped ovoid body flanked by applied winged birds with talons each clutching a ring suspended with knotted rope terminating in tassels. This phenomenal palace vase is painted in high detail with scenes of geishas within coastal gardens, the reverse side painted with a multiple battle scene vignettes of Japanese warriors in minute detail as well. Vase sits raised on matching squat pedestal with grotesque masks on each leg. 60 1/2'' h. x 24''.
