McLEOD, J., (Jamaican, 20th C): ''Enciente'', Carved Native Guango Wood, signed lower left thigh and under the base ''J. McLeod'', dated 1965 Jamaica, 23''h, sits on a painted wood plinth, 26'' overall. This artist has had a similar carving on exhibit at the National Gallery of Jamaica. While they have no biographical information available for us they believe it is ''likely that he was a student of the English sculptor Bill Broome who taught at the Jamaica School of Art in the mid 1960s and whose students produced sculptures that are similar in style and concept.'' https://nationalgalleryofjamaica.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/j-mcleod-mother-and-child-for-web.jpg
CONDITION: Sculpture wood has natural fissures, a few have been filled. Base has scattered cracks and repairs, paint loss, sold as is.
