Spending her summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts gave Warthen the opportunity to be part of the Provincetown Printers art colony. The colony was started in 1915 by B. J. O. Nordfeldt, and other artists who had fled Europe. Her white line woodcuts are done from a single block of wood, with each color done separately and applied in separate applications. This technique was passed on from Nordfeldt to Lazzell to Warthen.
