GREGORY, Dorothy Lake, (American, 1893-1970): ''The House of Seven Gables- Salem, Mass'', Lithograph, sight size 9.25'' x 10'', pencil signed edition of 20 lower right, titled lower left in pencil, black frame, 16'' x 18.5''. Gregory showed artistic talent early. She did professional line drawings of children for a local newspaper and at 17, their father took her and her brother to Europe to be exposed to classic art and music. Upon her return Pratt enrolled at the Pratt Institute in New York and studied at the Art Student League with Robert Henri, meeting her future husband there. Dorothy demonstrated a range of styles and mediums and illustrated over 20 books. Gregory exhibited at many prestigious places, and her work can be found in the permanent collections of the Boston Museum of Fine Art and the Congressional Library.
