Under the tutelage of Joe Sheppard, an instructor at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Hofmann developed his technique following that of the Old Masters. After graduation he made his debut into the New York art scene at Grand Central Galleries. However, the true beginning of his career started in Jack Gallery in Soho, New York City, where his first solo show saw the sale of all of his exhibited works in the first night.
