1007 | IMPORTANT 18K GOLD E. HOWARD POCKET WATCH: Mid 19th Century production, serial number 4550, size 18, 18kt engraved gold case. Watch engraved ''Presented to J. W. Ross by his father and to Tenney Ross by his father and to Lewis Tenney Ross by his father and to Tenney Kutz Ross by his father on their 21st birthdays''. The watch was originally owned by Lewis Winans Ross (December 8, 1812 - October 29, 1895) who was an Illinois attorney, merchant, and U.S. Representative from Illinois' 9th Congressional District and was given to his son John Wesley Ross (1841-1902), 1 of 12 children and also a distinguished attorney who served as President of the Washington, D. C., Board of Commissioners who in turn gave it to his oldest son Col. Tenney Ross who served as U.S. Army Chief of Staff, 79th Division, in World War I who then gave the watch to his son Lieutenant Tenney Kutz Ross who died in battle in the Korean War. Watch was finally given to Margaret Ross Karrick Seabloom by her mother in 1988. CONDITION: Currently not running, minor dings to case. |
