YOSHIDA, Hiroshi, (Japanese, 1876-1950): ''Temple in the Wood'', Woodblock, 15.75'' x 10.625'', stamp signed lower right, titled lower left, unframed. Yoshida was a leader in the new print movement (shin hanga) and was the only one to sign and title his work in English. He worked as a painter until his 40s when he became interested in woodblocks. He worked with Watanabe for a few years and became very involved in the printing process. Eventually he started his own print shop. Yoshida was an avid mountain climber and became known for his Alpine scenes.
