20-40 YEAR OLD PERSIAN QUM HAND KNOTTED SMALL PRAYER RUG 21 1/4'' x 18 3/4'': This is one of the most finely knotted rugs I have ever seen, with an equally beautiful use of colors and design. The blue ground Mihrab, (or prayer niche), is outlined in red and white that becomes elaborate columns. In the center are birds on top of a flowering bush. Above them is a hanging lamp that looks like an upside down vase of flowers. Vines that come out and go down either side of the Mihrab have clusters of grapes that further decorate the field. A signature cartouche is found at the top of the field in the center of the first guard border. The light colored guard borders flanking the red ground main border are only on three sides of the rug. I believe the rug is complete as seen, a jewel of the first order. Framed measures 28'' x 28 1/2''.
CONDITION: There are four small spots that were affixed to glass with glue. This may be removed by a professional. This rug originally cost several thousands of dollars.
