SEMI-ANTIQUE PERSIAN HAND KNOTTED SILK RUG, 3'7'' X 5'1'': This lovely, unusual rug was used for many years as a wall hanging and I think that is still its best use. The central round medallion in ivory, dark and medium blue, beige, and peach has an intricate curvilinear shaped design. The corners of the field are like quarters of the central medallion. The rest of the field has the usual leaves, palmettes, and flowers and some unusual motifs that can best be described as pairs of white with blue asparagus stems! Another interesting feature is in the main border of the rug where sections of the design resemble an aerial view of a neighborhood but I think were meant to be like ''Kufic'' or false writings. Three guard borders are on each side of the main border and lastly there is a wide solid color border with a stylized boteh motif repeating around the edge of the rug.
CONDITION: Since this rug has been hung on a wall for many years the one end is damaged along with the sides near that end. There is lots of shading and the rug is a little dry in some areas but it is still an interesting collectors piece.
