LARGE OIL/CANVAS OF 3 DOGS ATTRIBUTED TO ARMFIELD: 3 Dogs in an interior, Oil/Canvas, 36'' x 48'', no visible signature, fine period gilded gesso frame, 49'' x 60'' x 3''. Provenance: The painting was sent from England (mid-late 1800s), by hunters who came to Farmer City by invitation of Franklin Pierce Sangster, DOB 4/23/1852. The family story is these men from England came to hunt on F.P. Sangster's property. When done they told him he needed some dogs. About 6 months later he was told to come to the train and pick up a package. He thought it was live dogs, but when he got there, it was this painting. He was the mayor of the town. The painting survived 2 town fires.
CONDITION: Relined with scattered touches of inpaint, revarnished.
