HAIR, Alfred, (American, 1941-1970): Florida Highwaymen River Scene, painted as a commissioned work in a grouping of only 70-90 pieces by Alfred Hair but signed Freddy. Historical accounts vary as to how and why this body of work was created, but some say it was Albert Backus himself, mentor of Alfred Hair and Harold Newton, who suggested the name change for reasons that continue to be in question. Oil/Canvas, 24'' x 48'', signed lower right, exhibited at the A.E. Backus Museum and published in a 2016 calendar dedicated to the works of Alfred Hair, framed 28.25'' x 52.25''.
