DUBUCAND, Alfred, (French, 1828-1894): Orientalist Bronze Group ''Chasse A La Gazelle Au Guepard Perse'', 22'' h., 8'' d., 16.5'' w. The naturalistic base with inscribed signature has a bronze plaque affixed with titled in French that depicts the cheetah chasing down the gazelle with the Hunter watching on. Dubucand was a pupil of Lequien and Barye and exhibited regularly at the French Salons between 1867 and 1883. Dubucand was a prolific animalier sculptor and an impressively realistic modeller. Works ranged from Orientalist subjects of North African hunting groups to birds, dogs and wildlife.
CONDITION: Rifle barrel bent, several scattered spots of loss to patina.
