Hubbell spent many years painting airplane scenes for Thompson Products and later for TRW Inc. and became a nationally known artist and aviation historian. He was one of a very few artists who could see the majority of his life work, some 400+ oil paintings displayed in one gallery, The Crawford Auto and Aviation Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. His paintings of planes date from the early 1900's and include aircraft from World War 1. Mr. Hubbell began work with the former Thompson Products in 1934 when Fred C. Crawford, board chairman, hired him with a handshake to paint the winning plane each year in the famous Thompson Trophy Race. In 1939, Mr. Hubbell's first six pictures were used for a calendar and a similar calendar has been offered annually since. Here at Auction is a fine representation of his work. Provenance: From the estate of the former Vice President of Thompson Products Inc.
