UNUSUAL LARGE BRIARWOOD & MEERSCHAUM PIPE: Beautiful 2 piece briarwood bowl has a garland carved around the bowl and a crowned woman carved on the downturned ''branch''. A metal piece connects the bowl to the carved Meerschaum stem. The stem depicts a forest scene with a wild cat and a goose. This section is connected to the carved Meerschaum mouthpiece with a thread covered flexible stem. Briarwood bowl is 7.75'' long, metal connector is 1'', the first Meerschaum piece is 7.5'' l, the flexible piece is 3.75'' l, the next Meerschaum section is 4.5'' l and the metal mouthpiece is 1'' l. Total length is 25'' l. This collection is from a storage unit - the original owner is unknown. Letters in the unit to and from Dr. Burton Gottfried suggest that some or all of these items may be from his prestigious collection.
CONDITION: Wood bowl has a wonderful patina. Middle section of amber stem has some pock marks. Inside case is stained with tears; case is well worn.
