
HOLMES, J.H., (American, 1812-?): Depicts a fierce lion in a desert scene, Calligraphy, worked in black ink, signed ''Executed by J.H. Holmes'', measures 22 1/2'' x 17 1/2'', most likely in original grain painted frame. One of two very famous Ohio Calligraphy drawings by J.H. Holmes. Holmes was an unmarried uncle of Oliver Wendell Holmes. This drawing has been in the possession of family members and was personally purchased from a distant relative. This is the first time this has been offered for sale to the public. Circa mid to late 1800's.
