
THE BOSTON FISHING LADY NEEDLEWORK ON SILK: Ca. late 1700's. Embroidery needlework and water color on silk ground using both silk and wool thread in a variety of needlework stitches including stump work, short and long stitch, and seed stitch. Depicting the Boston fishing lady and three companions, the seated lady in red holds a small baby. Facial features and fish in the basket are painted in water color, as is the sky. Finely executed with all colors vivid and no loss of color and stitches. The silk is fragile and there is some loss of the silk background fabric in the upper section of the sky. Sight size 14 1/2'' x 17 1/2'' framed under glass 22'' x 18 1/4'' overall.
