
DOUGLAS, Aaron, (American, 1898-1979): 4 Piece Woodblock Set, probably 1950 restrike; ''Bravado'', ''Defiance'', ''Flight'', and ''Surrender'', Artist Proofs, each measuring 9'' x 6'' sight size, all pencil signed, titled, and marked A/P, framed in worn silver gilt frame, 15 1/2'' x 35''. Aaron Douglas was considered by many to be the father of Black American art, as well as a major artist involved in the Harlem Renaissance. Douglas became the first president of the Harlem Artists Guild, which helped to get African-American artists the necessary acceptance into the arts project under the U.S. Government's Works Progress Administration(WPA).
