ODIERNA, Guido, (Italian, 1913-): Capri Coastal Scene, Oil/Canvas, 24'' x 36'', signed, carved frame, 32'' x 44'', signed verso. Guido Odierna (Italian, 1913-1991) was a painter who was born and lived in Capri, Italy. He studied in the Royal Academy and also in the studio of Alexander Garbastoff, one of the outstanding painters of Capri and the Bay of Naples area. After Garbatoff's death in 1940, Odierna, who was his best pupil, had taken over his place. His paintings depict different areas of the island, making up a large part of his body of work. He is known for working in oils that feature seascapes, landscapes, still lifes, flowers, coastal and fishing boat scenes. He also had a Gallery in Rome where he displayed and sold his own works along with other artists that he represented.
