MODERN PERSIAN HAND EMBROIDERED WOOL & SILK FLAT WEAVE RUG, 3' 9'' x 6' 10'': This geometric design rug is generally attributed to the Shah Sevan tribal group. Shah Sevan means those loyal to the Shah. This group of Persians found themselves moved by the Shah in ages past to areas of the country where he was lacking in support. They often found themselves in the Northern border areas of Persia, butting up to the Caucasus regions, so many of their designs are very similar to traditional Caucasian motifs. This rug has two unusually shaped medallions in red and blue on an ivory field. There are tulips, birds, rows of small white knots and many other designs covering the field. The border is composed of three bands of red and blue also covered with designs. Condition is very good.
