CIRCA 1930'S NATIVE AMERICAN NAVAJO HAND WOVEN WOOL RUG, 31'' x 45 1/2'': This rug has an unusual look to it because the center has a stepped design of diamonds done mostly in neutral colors of white, beige, and grey. The diamonds are partly outlined in red and sometimes black to give them more definition but it looks like the design was hard for the weaver to control. The shapes and sizes of the diamonds and the size of the rows vary so much that it looks like the design got away from the weaver completely. However, the final effect is that the design has a sort of stained glass look to it that is very appealing. The border, unlike the field, is a very controlled and concise running dog border in red and black outlined by white. The border's strong colors and design frame the soft center of the rug in a way that makes this a very attractive piece.
CONDITION: Some light soiling and fuzzing.
