SEMI-ANTIQUE PERSIAN KARAJA, HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 4'9'' x 6': This good looking rug was woven in the village of Karaja which is very close to Heriz. The patterns and colors used on the rugs are very similar but most rugs woven in Karaja are not room-size. This rug has a red-rust ground with three medallions going down the center of the field. The center medallion has a white ground and the medallions on either side are predominately blue. The rest of the field is covered with flowers linked with vines and leaves. The geometric style of the patterns is typical of Karajas and many other village or tribal weavings. The colors of this rug along with the design make it a very appealing rug.
CONDITION: There is some apparent wear in the field of the rug. The ends are reduced and have new fringe applied.
