
BARLOW, Myron (American, 1873-1937): Pensive Young Girl Seated in an Interior, Oil/Canvas, 36'' x 28 1/2'', signed lower right, encased in period gilt and carved frame, 41 1/2'' x 33 1/2''. Barlow was an exceptional Detroit artist who spent most of his time at his home in Etaples, France. He studied whe he was younger with Boulanger and Gerome. By the age of twenty-two, Barlow had been awarded his first medal. In 1907, at age thirty-four, he was the only American elected to membership in the Societe Nationale des Beaux Arts in France. In 1932, the French government awarded Barlow the Legion of Honor. (Gerald Peters Gallery)
