328 Click for larger picture KRIEGSMARINE NAVAL DRESS SABER BY CARL EICKHORN: This gilded brass lion head Naval saber is possibly Eickhorn model 1870. This was the most commonly sold Naval saber for Eickhorn and it was produced without glass eyes. The cat on the pommel has lots of detail throughout, including hand-enhancing to the mane, the brow and also the whiskers. Even the chin has hair enhanced by hand. The mane flows backward, has hand-enhancing and covers the entire backstrap. The ferrule has oak leaf sprigs raised out. The ''D'' guard has the traditional fowled anchor, the reverse clamshell is folding and acts as a blade lock. Hard white spinney grip tightly wrapped with triple-twisted gilded brass wire. The 31'' blade is stamped with the 1935-41 Eickhorn squirrel logo indicating it is a Nazi produced piece and decorated on both sides with a ship at sea, foliate section, fowled anchor, larger foliate section with trident and crossed oars, and then one more foliate section. There is a green felt? washer in place showing age and wear. The saber blade is in pretty good condition with only a small ding to the tip. The guard has some tarnish and maybe the beginning of slight pitting. The scabbard is black leather decorated with twin lines which run on the edges of both sides, fitted with matching brass mounts, upper mount decorated with fowled anchor, the upper two mounts are equipped with the swords carrying rings, both plus tip with matching scrolling rope design. It is in more worn condition with tarnish to mounts and visible wear to the 32 3/4'' scabbard. 200
