When my great grandfather and grandfather moved to Davis Island back in 1940 as one of the first residents to the Island they met the Miles family who were also one of the first families to move to the Island. During the 60 years they lived there they became close friends with the Miles family who were direct descendants of General Nelson Appleton Miles. I have attached some historical information on General Miles and I will forward to you as well. Mrs. Miles decided to will the tables to my grandmother Dorothy when she passed away, due to their long time friendship and the dedication that my grandmother put into caring for Mrs. Miles as she became ill. They sat in my grandmother's home until a few months ago when I inherited them. They had significant meaning as they were a gift given out of gratitude and they held a unique story as well. These tables originally belonged to General Miles and rumor has it that former President Abraham Lincoln sat at them to dine with General Miles and family. | 3500 | |
