A note from the consignor states ''The baseball was given to my Grandfather, Maurice Bloch, who I believe was owner of the Selma Cloverleafs baseball team, (in Selma Alabama) of the Southeastern League in the 1940's. The team played at Bloch Park (formerly Roswell Field) in Selma. The Baseball is signed by Ben Chapman, one of the managers of the Philadelphia Phillies in 1947, and by Freddy Schmidt, who played with the Phillies on the 1947 team. Schmidt was a player on the St. Louis Cardinals Team which went to the World Series in 1944. Schmidt left the Phillies and was traded to Chicago Cubs later in 1947.''
