161 | IDENTIFIED CIVIL WAR C. ROBY 1860 CAVALRY SWORD: Nice crisp markings C. Roby W. Chelmsford Mass on ricasso, US 1864 ADK verso. Identified by family to Giles Norton of the 24th Cavalry New York. Norton died in service, unknown cause of death. 34 3/4'' blade has mirror bright finish with minor areas of age spots, scratches and flea bit chips. Pommel and guard have nice age patina, original leather and wire are excellent. Original metal scabbard with no dents or dings. The 24th Cavalry was mustered in January 1864 and saw service from the Battle of the Wilderness to Appomattox Courthouse. CONDITION: Note areas of minor areas of age spots, scratches, almost unnoticed chips to cutting edge. Leather show minor rub areas, scabbard shows age color. |
