Varick'' as Mayor of New York, March 4, 1790, New York, 13'' x 8 1/2'', partly printed and accomplished in manuscript. A license issued to Hercules Wendover to maintain an inn or tavern in his home for one year. Not permitted is ''any Cock-fighting, Gaming, or Playing with Cards or Dice...'' The document is framed in a light wooden frame. Varick was Benedict Arnold's and Washington's personal secretary. Washington trusted him so much even after Arnold's treason that Varick transcribed all of Washington's papers.'' Framed 13 1/4'' x 8 3/4''.
CONDITION: Some toning at folds and down left margin, also with separation at folds, all well away from Varick's signature, not examined out of frame.

The 18 turquoise stones are well matched in color and each is set upon a squash blossom accented with richly burnished beads.. Ray is renowned Navajo artisan whose pieces can sell for thousands of dollars. This piece measures 24'' in length, total weight 132.4 grams, and the traditional naja crescent measures 2''H x 2.5''W, also accented with beautiful turquoise.
1012 Click for larger picture APPROX 20-35 YR OLD CHINESE AUBUSSON DESIGN WOOL NEEDLEPOINT RUG, 8' X 10': This lovely French Aubusson design rug has an oval shaped main field around a round ''outline'' medallion. The field and its corners are outlined by red, beige, and ivory bands. The corners have sprays of realistically drawn flowers with a white ribbon. More of the flowers appear in the medallion and center of the rug, alternating with yellow and beige vines.
CONDITION: Condition is good with some slight soil but on surface.

The solid blue velvety looking field is striking, the border panels are where the whimsy appears. Each panel has different designs that include goats, deer, men, women, trees, and birds in flight. The colors used in the panels include red, yellow, green and pale blue. A neat rug.

Center crest with spread wing eagle, seated musicians and foliate scroll, stepped pediment over carved geometric and floral decorations. Fluted side columns with acanthus leaf tops, base with matching decoration. Center of base with shelf over turned front legs. Overall approx. 107'' h. x 36'' x 12''.
CONDITION: Wear and loss to gilt, flaking to mirror.
1036 Click for larger picture SEMI-ANTIQUE PERSIAN KERMAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL PALACE SIZED RUG, 14'7'' X 24'9'': This lovely old Kerman has the desirable overall pattern filling up the field around a blue diamond shaped medallion. The sprays and vases of flowers over the ivory field are done in colors that include pistachio green, pinks, blues, and beige. The ''broken'' borders are done in the same colors and the edge curves in and out of the field. This is a beautiful classic Persian rug that would make a real statement of elegance in your home.
CONDITION: There is some shading, some slight stains and the fringe is worn but none of these things detract from the beauty of this rug. Shippers note approx. 238 lbs.

A row of different geometric shaped medallions runs down the center of the brick red field. The medallions and the field itself are all outlined in white. This accentuates both the designs and the other colors used. These colors include blue, pink, black, green, and yellow.
CONDITION: This rug is in good condition.

1056 Click for larger picture APPROX 20-35 YR OLD PERSIAN VILLAGE HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 5'2'' X 13'11'': This gallery or corridor shape rug has a lot of charm. The oval central medallion within a medallion has a red/orange exterior that is outlined with pale yellow, white, red and blue bands. Little stems come away from the medallion, each with a little flower or boteh. Pairs of birds and clusters or sprays of flowers fill in the rest of the field. The colors used in the field continue in the guard and main borders of the rug.
CONDITION: This rug is in good condition.

A single row of motifs in blues and ivory goes down the center of the red field. The mostly ivory colored borders also have a repeating design of two motifs, (in the center border), and trefoil design guard borders. These make the runner look longer.

A row of medallions done in white and dark blue with rust/orange centers rests on the rust/orange field. Stems with stylized tulips, one on each side, come between the medallions and stars are found around their sides. The light colored main border and the rust/orange and pale blue sawtooth guard borders nicely frame the field.

Large shapes around the pinwheels done in salmon and dark blue are actually very stylized flower heads. On either end and in the middle are stick like plants with single flowers at each point. These are very archaic designs even though the rug isn't that old.

The bands are also around the deep blue central medallion. The deep blue ground of the rest of the field is covered with rows of various-colored round flower heads. The white ground main border and the guard borders make a nice frame for the dramatic central design.

Seven medallions of two different shapes that alternate are the main decoration down the field. The medallions have either dark blue, aqua, or golden yellow as their main colors. Only a few small motifs are found on the rest of the red/orange field. The mostly light-colored borders complete the design of the rug.

They have stepped outlines in dark blue and white and rest on a red/rust field. Blue/black vines go around flowers around the medallions. The blue guard borders and the beige main border have traditional designs that include the serrated leaf and flower done in the same colors on the field.

The diamonds are outlined with a white zig-zag edge. A few other small design elements are found on the field but there is a sense of openness. The zig-zag design is continued in the white and pale blue angled leaves on the brick red main border. An attractive rug.

1246 Click for larger picture APPROX 20-35 YR OLD PERSIAN VILLAGE HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 4'8'' X 9'2'': This wild and crazy village rug has a large grey with peach, brown, and white, central medallion on a red/rust field that has some abrash or color change. Spandrels or palmettes are at either end in line with the medallion. Each ends motif is done in different colors. The blue corners and the field have flowers and vines that are so stylized it's difficult to recognize that that's what they are! This rug has a nice primitive look to it.

1259 Click for larger picture APPROX 15-40 YR OLD CHINESE AUBUSSON HAND WOVEN NEEDLEPOINT RUG, 7'4'' X 9'8'': A classic French formal design with bolder colors than are sometimes used are found in this pretty Aubusson rug. A white center round medallion with realistically drawn roses in the center and around the outside like a wreath rests on the brown field. Two tones of gold and more roses are found in a design of vines with leaves and flower ends curling around the medallion over the brown field. Red and the gold tones are used in bands to outline the field and to form the borders.
CONDITION: There are some small holes, some color fade and soil but the overall look is still good.

1321 Click for larger picture RIZZI, James (American, 1950-2011): ''The Sun The Moon My Heart'', 3D lithograph, pencil signed lower right, numbered 33/350 and dated 2002, black metal frame, 10.75'' x 9.5''. Rizzi studied Fine Arts at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He came up with the idea of 3D prints when, having taken classes in painting, printmaking and sculpturing, he had to hand in work for all three subjects, but only had time to complete one. Rizzi created an etching, printed it twice, hand colored it, and mounted parts of the one print on top of the other. This technique is now associated mostly with his name.
1322 Click for larger picture APPROX 40-75 YR OLD PERSIAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUNNER, 3'8'' X 12'4'': This appealing North-West Persian runner has a ''tribal'' feel to it with its design and colors used. The brick red field is covered with staggered rows of saw tooth edge diamond shaped motifs. The diamonds are done in different color combinations, the colors including salmon, red, dark brown, beige, grey, and white. The ground color varies from one end of the rug to the other but this doesn't take away from the design of the rug. The white guard borders also help to make the field ''pop''.
CONDITION: Condition is good for its age with some visible wear and color fade.

The pale, ivory, grey, pale green and pink central medallion with spandrels at either end is surrounded by flowers and palmettes linked by vines covering the field out to the corners. The corners and the borders are done in colors that match the central medallion. This is a well-designed lovely rug.
CONDITION: There are some stains near the center of the field and in the border. They may be able to be lightened up by spot cleaning.

The five borders of the rug have an array of patterns that are often found in Caucasian rugs. This is a striking rug.

1343 Click for larger picture APPROX 30-50 YR OLD PERSIAN SHIRAZ HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 6' X 12': Traditional colors and designs of the Shiraz were used in making this rug. There is a row of medallions within medallions with red and blue centers and white and grey/blue exteriors. The color combinations alternate up the red/orange field that has a dark blue zig-zag inner border. Large long leaves are placed in rows around the edges of the medallions and the field, and lots of small flowers are scattered in between. The mostly white ground guard borders are around the blue main border.
CONDITION: Condition good for its age except for some color run at one end onto the fringe.
