1196 Click for larger picture AFRICAN STRAW, SHELL & BEAD KUBA MASK: This imposing mask features a representation of an elephant trunk at the top which is the most powerful animal of the region and a symbol of the power of the ruler. It is further adorned with cowry shells, fur, and other fibers.
CONDITION: Good condition with some noticeable aging and wear. See photos for details.

1197 Click for larger picture YAKA AFRICAN HELMET MASK WITH STAND: This mask is used by the Yaka people in their coming of age ceremony in which boys are circumcised. Wood carved masked with polychrome features a bird with eggs and a handle to hold the mask during the ritual. The raffia headdress is always part of this type of mask. Measures 26'' h.
CONDITION: Very good/excellent condition.

1199 Click for larger picture ZAIRE BEADED KUBA HELMET MASK: This mask features wonderful design all around using cowrie shells and sections of beading. Face and chin are wood carved and still has some animal hair fringe. A long tassel projects from the crown. Measures 18'' h. Estimated to be 50 years old.
CONDITION: Normal wear. Animal hair fringe is sparse from normal wear.
