CHINESE FAMILLE ROSE FIGURAL WALL PLAQUES: This is an outstanding set of four (4) antique hand-painted porcelain tiles/plaques, depicting scenes from daily life, wrapped in their original wooden frames. The wooden frames present three distinct parts, with the porcelain plaques in the center elongated rectangle. One plaque shows a seated man being served perhaps tea by a woman, in a room with a floor of green and black tiles. Three appear to be outside scenes with perhaps scholars and their acolytes, or suitors approaching young ladies. Regardless, each painting is exquisitely detailed. Each of these exceptional plaques has three (3) vertical lines of calligraphy and two (2) red seals on the upper portion of the plaque. The plaques are centered within a faded gold gilded oval wooden frame held by four bats inside the frame's center elongated central rectangle. Bats typically represent good fortune. Above and below each porcelain plaque are finely carved wooden scenes perhaps depicting elders or deities. All have appropriate bronze hangers. Overall approx. 36.5'' h x 12.75'' w. Plaques Approx. 17.5'' h x 9.5'' w. CONDITION: The porcelain plaques are in great condition, free of chips, cracks or repairs. As shown in the photos, the paint and gilding of the wood are faded and includes discolorations, nicks and chips. |
