DAVENPORT, William Slocum, (New York/France, 1868 - 1938): Landscape with Trees at the Water's Edge and City in the Distance, Oil/Canvas, 31.75'' x 25.5'', signed lower left, painted wood frame, 39'' x 32''. Davenport graduated from dental school in 1890, and shortly after went to Paris to practice. It was there he met James Mcneil Whistler, who befriended him and encouraged his artistic career. Information from Lucille Barnes, relative of the artist. CONDITION: Frame is worn and over painted, painting has several flecks of loss and some minor abrasions, some craquelure, needs cleaning, sold as is. |
