1061 Click for larger picture CHWAT, Molli, (French, 1888-1979): Parisian Street Scene, Oil on Canvas, 16'' x 13'', signed lower right, contemporary framing, 19.5'' x 16.5''. Chwat was born in Poland and studied art in Saint Petersburg and Paris. After WWII, he immigrated to Israel and began painting biblical themes. ''There are artists who attached to the ceremonial religion, others attached to the mysticism of the legends and some who enter the esoteric traditions. Chwat, in his painting, praises enthusiastically the great events that relate to the holy book. By this, he makes a strong and ancient connection to the source of Jewish art.''- La Via Juive, 1955.

Karpathy was born in Hungary and studied in Budapest with Bertalan Skekely. He also studied in France, Brussels and Belgium. He is best known for his landscape paintings.

1064A Click for larger picture APPROX. 45-65 YR OLD PERSIAN KASHAN PICTORIAL HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUNNER, 2'6'' x 10': This rug has an unusual pictorial format that starts with a blue sky with clouds over a tall waterfall that becomes a river that flows the length of the runner. On islands or outcroppings of land on either side are found a variety of animals from all over the world. These include a polar bear, penguins, elephants, giraffes, monkeys, a lion, tiger, and leopard and more. The animal's images were probably derived from photos or books and their scale of size doesn't match the true size of the animals, but it adds to the charm of the rug.
CONDITION: Condition is good for its age but with some visible shading and stains.

1077A Click for larger picture APPROX. 20-35 YR OLD PERSIAN HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 2'4'' x 4'8'': This rug has a well-balanced design with good colors. The white ground central medallion has fan like spandrels at either end on a red ground field. A Herati variant repeating design that includes diamond shaped motifs around a single flower head, fan shaped flowers at two ends and long leaves around smaller flower heads, covers the rest of the field. Condition is good. 125
1078 Click for larger picture 18TH CENTURY HENRY BUXTON ENGLISH LONG CASE CLOCK: Circa mid 18th century, profusely carved all over front. Bonnet with foliate scroll crest, 3/4 columns, and arrowhead designs. Body with stylized figures and foliate motifs. Engraved brass dial with applied decoration at corners, signed Henry Buxton. Buxton operated from 1748-1775 in Wolverhampton, England. Time and bell strike movement, overall measures 86'' h. x 17 1/2'' x 9 3/4''.
CONDITION: Age separation at base, other wear consistent with age. Currently running however not guaranteed to continue.

1087 Click for larger picture SEMI-ANTIQUE TURKISH HAND KNOTTED WOOL, 10'6''x 22'2'': This palatial size rug has designs and colors that are usually found on smaller rugs from the Caucasus region next to Turkey. The dark aqua field is covered with small geometric shaped motifs in red, ivory, dark blue, and pink that repeat over and over. There are six guard borders and a main border whose design is found on Genge and Karabagh Caucasian rugs. This is a good rug for those who like the geometric Caucasian look and need a large rug.
CONDITION: There is some shading, there are some areas of visible wear, there is a stain in one corner, the rug has been re-fringed and the fringe is coming away at one end.

1096A Click for larger picture APPROX. 75-90 YR OLD PERSIAN BORCHALOU HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 4'9'' x 7'6'': This is a very attractive example of a Persian village, Borchalou that is known for its cheerful, clear colors and it is well drawn designs. There is a central diamond shaped medallion and outer oval shaped designs that link to it. The red, blues, greens, and orange colored flowers are on an ivory field.
CONDITION: Condition is mostly good for its age though the ends need some repair.

1100 Click for larger picture ANTIQUE PERSIAN BELOUCHI HAND KNOTTED WOOL RUG, 3' x 5'9'': This attractive Belouchi has an unusual pattern but uses traditional colors. The field is composed of rows of squares with a central diamond that divides the squares into four parts. Rust, dark blue, beige, and brown with white accents are the colors used throughout the rug. Belouchi rugs traditionally use little white wool in their rugs but there is a lot more white in this rug than usual. This makes the various motifs ''pop'' and puts it in the class of a collector's piece. Condition is good for its age. 200
