'BACCHANALIA'' AN EARLY ETCHING AFTER RAYMOND LA FAGE: An early etching, perhaps by the artist Franz (Francois) Ertinger (1648-1810), on rag paper after an original work entitled ''Bacchanalia'' created in 1689 by the artist Raymond La Fage (1656-1684). This early etching, having been trimmed and mounted on laid paper, is framed in a later gold colored frame with embossed edges. A multi-figural somewhat erotic composition depicts nymphs flirting with Satyrs and resting Bacchantes who have been charmed by the Greek god of the forest. The model for the graphic by Raymond de Lafage was published by Van Der Bruggen in Paris in 1689. The original is preserved in the Louvre, Paris. The trimmed etching is 9.5'' x 16.5'', 11.5'' x 18.5'' sight size. Framed 14'' x 20.625'' CONDITION: Trimmed and mounted on laid paper. Minor toning on right side. |
