DRYSDALE, Alexander John, (American, 1870-1934): An important Bayou Landscape Painting with meandering Stream Scene and Water Hyacinths in Bloom, Watercolor, 20'' x 30'', framed 24.50'' x 34.50''. Artist's business card affixed verso. Drysdale specialized in and was known primarily for his landscapes depicting Louisiana's bayous and marshes. As a young adult he studied at the Southern Art Union with the leading artists of the times in New Orleans to include Paul E. Poincy. At the Art Students League in New York City in 1901, he had associations with George Inness, Robert Henri, William Merritt Chase and others. His art can be viewed at the New Orleans Museum of Art, The Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and The Historic New Orleans Collection. Some consider Drysdale to be the National Painter of Louisiana. | 2400 |
